The Institute of Liturgical Studies works as an academic and research subdivision of the Ukrainian Catholic University. The Institute was created on 17 November 1999.
The Institute’s research projects involve the study of historical liturgics of the Byzantine-Slavic rite, along with history, theology, and liturgical choral music. The Institute publishes two academic journals, “Kalophonia” and “Anthology of Byzantine-Slavic Church Monody.”
The Institute is working on a source base of its research. It is compiling biographical and terminological dictionaries and a bibliography. A specialized library is being formed. The Heirmos computer data base (the repertoire of Ukrainian church monody) has been created and is supported.
The Institute also organizes international academic conferences, is involved with the education of choir directors, and runs the Choir Directors’ Summer School at Holy Dormition Monastery in Univ.
